Real ID was passed by Congress in 2005 to require states to identify individuals before giving them a driver's license. It requires proof of citizenship and proof of address. Almost all states have adopted it but there are holdouts. Confusing Real ID with the new Digital ID system is misleading and frankly disappointing in your post. They are not the same thing. The Real ID deadline has been extended for years and years for some states that just don't want to comply. Hopefully the Congress puts their foot down and for those states that haven't complied (ie checked the real identity and address of those getting drivers license) refuse to allow their citizens to fly on airplanes. That's what Real ID is about. It was enacted after 911 for the sole purpose of getting rid of fake drivers licenses that allow people to fly.
Thank you for this important notice!
I just posted this simple comment per your recommendation on the first site you provided:
"I wholeheartedly oppose the TSA/DHS plan to impose the unconstitutional REAL ID."
I selected the "Anonymous" option and received a "Comment Tracking Number."
I oppose the TSA/DHS plan to impose the unconstitutional REAL ID.
I signed, thanks for the heads up

I wholeheartedly disagree and fully support "Urgent Action Needed to Stop Real ID."
