Cancer Is NOT A Death Sentence - With Cancer Survivor Chris Wark "Chris Beat Cancer"
Follow The Survivors...
All of us have either received a cancer diagnosis or know someone close to us who has. It’s terribly frightening to hear that word, isn't it? It's hard hear it and not think "death sentence". And yet there are people who have healed from it and have remained cancer-free, and surprisingly…or maybe not so surprisingly after you hear this conversation… they have done it through their own lifestyle changes.
One of these incredible cancer survivors is Chris Wark. You may know him as "Chris Beat Cancer", and his website of resources and his best-selling books. In 2003, at the age of 26 years old, Chris was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. There was a golf ball sized tumor in his large intestine, and the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. The oncologist told him he was “insane”, but after prayerful consideration and research, he decided against chemotherapy after surgery. Instead, he radically changed his diet and did every natural non-toxic therapy he could find.
And it worked. And it’s still working to this day!
So in 2010, he started his blog to share his story and everything he had learned about nutrition and natural therapies for cancer. He also started sharing cancer healing testimonials from other survivors. Today he is still cancer free, healthy and strong, and in the best shape and health of his life.
Chris' message is this: "If you have been diagnosed with cancer, you have options-- Many more than you’ve been told. You have the power to transform your life and regain your health. If I did it, you can too."
*You may just have to FOLLOW THE SURVIVORS…
*Ask some QUESTIONS…
*And FOLLOW THE ACTUAL SCIENCE…
*And TAKE ACTION to make some LIFESTYLE CHANGES…
We mentioned that most doctors don’t even discuss diet or lifestyle either as cancer prevention education or as education with newly diagnosed cancer patients. With OBESITY being the 2nd leading cause of cancer, and with cancer exponentially on the rise, you would think this would be an integral part of the patient’s treatment plan. But many doctors never even address it.
Here are some studies and facts about obesity, diet, lifestyle and how closely related it is to not only cancer, but NUMEROUS chronic diseases and illnesses.
📑Obesity and Cancer: A Current Overview of Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Outcomes, and Management
“…there is growing evidence that obesity increases the risk of several solid-organ and hematological malignancies. Obesity has been linked to cancer of the breast, colon and rectum, esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, uterus, pancreas, and ovary, among others…Obesity is not only associated with an increased risk of cancer but may also increase the risk of cancer recurrence and mortality in cancer survivors. Hence, the management of obesity as an early intervention in patients with early-stage cancer is important to improve cancer outcomes.”
📑How does obesity cause cancer?
*Overweight and obesity is the second biggest cause of cancer in the UK – causing more than 1 in 20 cancer cases.
*Keeping a healthy weight reduces the risk of 13 different types of cancer
📑Straight from the CDC: Obesity and Cancer
*More than 684,000 obesity-associated cancers occur in the United States each year, including more than 210,000 among men and 470,000 among women.
*Breast cancer after menopause is the most common obesity-associated cancer among women. Colorectal cancer is the most common obesity-associated cancer among men.
*More than 90% of new obesity-related cancers occur in men and women who are 50 years old or older
📑Body Fatness and Cancer — Viewpoint of the IARC Working Group
“we concluded that the absence of excess body fatness lowers the risk of most cancers. In addition, a review of studies in experimental animals and mechanistic data suggest a causal cancer-preventive effect of intentional weight loss, although evidence in humans remains to be established.”
📑STRAIGHT FROM THE NIH - Obesity and Cancer Fact Sheet
“People who have a higher BMI at the time their cancer is diagnosed (29) or who have survived cancer (30, 31) have higher risks of developing a second, unrelated cancer (a second primary cancer).”
“In a large clinical trial of patients with stage II and stage III rectal cancer, those with a higher baseline BMI (particularly men) had an increased risk of local recurrence (51). Death from multiple myeloma is 50% more likely for people with the highest levels of obesity compared with people at healthy weight (52).”
“Researchers are also studying how obesity alters the tumor microenvironment, which may play a role in cancer progression. For example, studies in mouse models show that obesity (induced by feeding mice a high-fat diet) creates a competition for lipids between tumor cells and T cells that makes the T cells less effective at fighting the cancer (58)”
📑Does Body Weight Affect Cancer Risk?
More than 1 in 3 American adults is now obese, and another 1 in 3 is overweight.
“More and more evidence suggests that being overweight or obese raises the risk of cancer coming back after treatment and may lower the chances of survival for many cancers. Both during and after cancer treatment, people should try to get to and stay at a healthy weight whenever possible.”
📑How does obesity cause cancer?
“The link between obesity and cancer risk is clear. Research shows that excess body fat increases your risk for several cancers, including colorectal, post-menopausal breast, uterine, esophageal, kidney and pancreatic cancers.”
📑New study links overweight and obesity to more cancers than previously shown
“Longitudinal body mass index and cancer risk: a cohort study of 2.6 million adults, published in Nature Communications, has found that overweight and obesity during early adulthood (between ages 18–40 years) could be linked with up to 18 cancers.”
“This study shows that longer duration, greater degree, and younger age of onset of overweight and obesity during early adulthood are positively associated with risk of 18 cancers, including leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and among never-smokers, head and neck, and bladder cancers which are not yet considered as obesity-related cancers in the literature.”
“Our findings reinforce the need for public health strategies for overweight and obesity prevention and reduction in early adulthood for cancer prevention.”
Knowing all of that, don’t you think Doctors…ESPECIALLY Oncologists…should prioritize diet and nutrition in their treatment plan?
Or what about EXERCISE?
🏃🏽♀️Exercise called "wonder drug" for cancer patients:What can it do?
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/exercise-called-wonder-drug-for-cancer-patientswhat-can-it-do/
“The latest "wonder drug" for cancer isn't a drug at all - but exercise.”
"Cancer patients would be shocked if they knew just how much of a benefit physical activity could have on their recovery and long term health,"
📑And this study…Vigorous Intermittent Lifestyle Physical Activity and Cancer Incidence Among Nonexercising Adults
Showing that even as little as 3-4 MINUTES of exercise reduces cancer risk!
📑This is the study Chris mentioned: Greater Survival After Breast Cancer in Physically Active Women With High Vegetable-Fruit Intake Regardless of Obesity
“In these breast cancer survivors who were interested in lifestyle change and were predominantly nonsmokers, the 30% of women who were physically active and consumed at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits each day had an estimated 10-year mortality rate of 7%, approximately half that of any other combination of PA and dietary pattern. Of particular importance, this halving of risk was seen in women who were not obese as well as in those who were obese.”
📑And this study: Physical activity, sedentary time and breast cancer risk: a Mendelian randomisation study
“Our study provides strong evidence that greater overall physical activity, greater vigorous activity, and lower sedentary time are likely to reduce breast cancer risk. More widespread adoption of active lifestyles may reduce the burden from the most common cancer in women.”
📑And this one…Exercise and Healthy Diet Boosts Survival
A study adds to the growing evidence that a healthy diet and exercise can really benefit women diagnosed with breast cancer. The study followed almost 1,500 women who had been treated for breast cancer. About 30% of the women stuck with a healthy diet and moderate exercise program after treatment. These women were about 50% more likely to survive during the 10-year follow-up period compared to women who didn't stick with the diet and exercise program.”
“Meeting the minimum guidelines for physical activity both before diagnosis and after treatment appears to be associated with statistically significantly reduced hazards of recurrence and mortality among breast cancer patients.”
🍊And we can’t forget the INCREDIBLE benefits of IV VITAMIN C. There is so much information about this PROVEN therapy, along with so many other adjuvant therapies that most people and Oncologists don’t know about…but EVERYONE NEEDS to know. (*This will be an entirely separate substack because there is just too much to share here).
Given all of this evidence, you would think that not just diet and nutrition, but also EXERCISE would be part of the treatment plan. These are simple actions that ANYONE and EVERYONE can prevent cancer, reduce risk of recurrence, and reduce mortality. But instead of educating patients on this - and most of them don’t even address these modifiable lifestyle factors AT ALL, doctors continue to “do what they’ve always done”… treat patients like a hopeless, helpless victim, and use fear to rush them into a surgery and toxic “treatment” that really hasn’t proven to “treat” cancer as much as they want you to think it does.
📑The contribution of cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adult malignancies
“The overall contribution of curative and adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adults was estimated to be 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the USA”
“To justify the continued funding and availability of drugs used in cytotoxic chemotherapy, a rigorous evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and impact on quality of life is urgently required.”
**Please note: This is NOT to tell anyone not to listen to their doctor or to tell you that chemotherapy, surgery, radiation NEVER work and should never be considered. We know that there is a time and a place for these interventions and therapies. However, it should always be done on an individual basis, and it is clear that supporting the immune system and overall health of the patient should ALWAYS be part of the treatment plan, and should NOT be ignored. As with any medical decision, ESPECIALLY one as important as this one that you cannot take back, patients should be FULLY INFORMED regarding all risks and benefits, as well as the success rate, and ALL of their options.
